Discover the Laughs

Why Laughter Improv?

In addition to being incredibly fun, laughter improv has some serious real-world benefits that are backed by science:

Laughter and improv can help boost creativity and self-confidence.

Laughter and improv can help with social anxiety and uncertainty.

Laughter and improv can help with generalized anxiety and depression.

Laughter and improv are a natural, cost-effective way to boost endorphins and other essential feel-good chemicals.

Why Laughy Place?

We are committed to an environment where diverse improvisers can develop their unique comedic personalities. We'll give just enough guidance for you to succeed and then get out of the way so the laughs can grow organically.

We maximize laugh-time and minimize downtime! We won’t stop for long critiques or recaps during a session.

Our hour-long classes are long enough to boost your mood without taking over your entire day or evening,

We let you spontaneously sign up for individual sessions that fit your calendar, without making you commit to an expensive 8-week series.

What to Expect

Mindset for Improv

You don’t need to be a ‘funny person’ in order to have fun improvising. In fact you’ll probably have better luck if you let go of trying to be ‘funny’, ‘smart’, or any other self-imposed expectation.

Come to improv with an open mind and a willingness to be completely in the moment. Be ready to give full attention to the words and body-language of your co-improvisers. Trust yourself to spontaneously absorb and co-create with the good people around you. ‘Funny’ situations will emerge naturally through spontaneous improvisation.

Improv Good Practices

‘Yes and…’ is at the core of improv. You don’t need to literally say these words, but you do need to embrace (‘Yes’) and build on (‘and’) the scene offered by others.

Your co-improvisers will appreciate it when you add new information to enrich the scene and/or advance the story.

Make sure you’re sharing and taking turns with your co-improvisers.

Be oddly specific. Offer colorful details. Push scenarios a bit too far.

Come on strong. Be bold. Give your co-improvisers a lot to work with.

Reverse course mid-scene and change everything.

Potty themes, profanity, insults and put-downs get old quickly.
